Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television anchor and journalist for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. Mitchell joined CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She became a Washington general reporter of NBC News two years later. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent within the year 1988. She was promoted to the Chief White House reporter in 1992 and was also the Chief of the Foreign Affairs department at NBC News. Mitchell is a regular in the TV news show Meet the Press as a host and panelist. She was on the panel for 1988's presidential debates, in which George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in journalism. In 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered in the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's terms as President. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of important stories, including the Iran-contra case and tax reform. Mitchell traveled with President Ronald Reagan in numerous visits for world summits and wrote frequently.
